About
I write dark, atmospheric fiction drawn to grief, spiritual conflict, unseen influence, and the fragile boundary between light and darkness.
I’m interested in the forces that shape human beings from beneath the surface, the hidden fractures in the soul, the weight of loss, the tension between free will and influence, and the quiet possibility that much more is happening around us than we can fully understand.
That is the space where A Lightless Soul was born.
A Lightless Soul is the first book in the Underworld series, a story rooted in grief, moral fracture, and the unseen forces that bend the soul toward light or darkness. Through this series, I want to explore not only fear and mystery, but also the spiritual weight of choice, the cost of descent, and what becomes of us when darkness begins to answer back.
This site is where I’ll be sharing excerpts, fragments from John’s Files, hidden rules of the Underworld, and updates as the story continues to unfold.
If any of that speaks to you, welcome.
Jean Phil
Jean Phil is a Guatemalan author whose work explores grief, faith, unseen influence, and the tension between light and darkness. Inspired by the spiritual and cultural richness of Guatemala, including the enduring presence of Maya heritage, Garifuna identity, and the country’s layered histories of belief and symbolism, his writing seeks to uncover what lies beneath ordinary life.
His fiction blends the psychological, the supernatural, and the sacred, creating worlds where the soul is tested by forces both human and beyond human understanding.
